TRISTAN LANGLOIS STORYTELLER

Tristan has specialised in storytelling in heritage, education, in clubs and on stage for over twenty years, working with English Heritage, Cadw, the National Trust, Historic Royal Palaces and other historic sites, museums and galleries. His sets are a magpie collection drawn from all over the world, but are all stories that make him want to sit down and weep, or jump up and dance. His style is irreverent and respectful, poignant and provocative, and always involves his audience as much as they dare.

George Murphy, Shaggy Dog Storytellers

'a brilliant storyteller...engaging, skilled and steeped in a knowledge of folktales, myth and legend. I love his voice, his humour and his empathy with us lot in the audience. Panache with a moustache!'

CURRENT SHOWS

Stories for grown-up children

I have four 'off-the-shelf' shows currently, two distinctly seasonal, and two shows that are right (or possibly very wrong) for any time of year. Do please get in touch if you have something particular of your own in mind, my back catalogue is extensive, and with enough time, I'm happy to consider commissions.

SILENCE AND THE WIZARD'S LAUGH

In a time after Arthur, when dragons roamed and wizards hid, when men were women and women were men - a mysterious storyteller weaves dreams and weathers nightmares to survive. Tristan Langlois recounts the oddly modern medieval Roman de Silence, a 700 year old exploration of gender, identity, fantasy and farce

RUDE, CRUDE AND DANGEROUS TO KNOW

Before Chaucer, before Bocaccio, there were the medieval French fabliaux, plumbing and parading the depths of obscenity and profanity right alongside the better known epics and romances of King Arthur. Tristan unleashes five of the funniest, foulest fabliaux in a ribald, rollicking performance guaranteed to have you laughing and protesting by turns!

BUMP IN THE NIGHT

Three strange and disturbing tales drawn from English folklore guaranteed to send a shiver down your spine and make you turn all the lights on when you get back home.

YULETIDE YARNS

Traditional tales of winter and wonder for the fireside, taken from Arthurian legend and European folklore, best accompanied by a steaming pot of negus. Whatever that is.

SCHOOLS

Stories for actual children

I currently have two sets for schools, exploring Ancient Greek and Anglo-Saxon myths and legends. I've designed both to be highly interactive, with plenty of opportunity for participation and role-play. I'm also happy to tailor the sets to fit with your own scheme of work; and to work with teachers and students on storytelling techniques, ancient and modern, to improve listening and oracy skills. Contact me to discuss details.

GODS AND MONSTERS

Stories from Ancient Greece

Using the story of Heracles and his Labours, Tristan invites pupils to join him on an extraordinary, exploratory journey of Ancient Greek myth and legend in which "but that's another story" can take you from the beginnings of time to the end of the Age of Heroes.
